LEAVES | A COVID PROJECT
During my time in Quarantine I spent a lot of time hiking around Wissahickon Valley Park. As the seasons started to turn I ended up collecting leaves that called out to me. Throughout the fall I continued this practice slowly, picking one or two leaves per hike until I had around 20. Through the beginning of this winter I began painting them. For this project I stayed to a personal rule of 15 ‘moves’ per painting. A ‘move’ I defined as an action that changes the direction of the painting, these could range to a series of highlights, a body of water to a singular tree. This kept my mind moving during this period of a changing to a colder harsher climate as Quarantine continued. Each Leaf was plasticized with an acrylic medium prior to being painted on with watercolors, and then sealed with a UVL protective varnish.
